How to Communicate Effectively In The Light Of Qur’an & Sunnah.

 

1. Smile (1)
2. Start with the greeting “Assalamu Alaikum” (2)
3. Shake hands (with same gender only) (3)
4. Have a soft and gentle tone when speaking (4)
5. Be simple & concise in your speech (5)
6. Give your attention to the speaker and don’t interrupt (6)
7. Avoid any disputes or arguments (7)
8. End conversation with Islamic greeting

(1) Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)”Every good is charity. Indeed among the good is to meet your brother with a smiling face (at-Tirmidhi 1970)

(2) A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: Peace be upon you! He responded to his salutation. He then sat down. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Ten. Another man came and said: Peace and Allah’s mercy be upon you! He responded to his salutation when he sat down. He said: Twenty. Another man came and said: Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you! He responded to him and said when he sat down: and blessings be upon you! He responded to him and said when he sat down: Thirty. (Sunan Abi Dawud 5195 – Sahih by Al-Albani)

(3) The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “There are no two Muslims who meet and shake hands, but they will be forgiven before they part.”. (Sunan Abi Dawud 5212 Sahih by Al Albani)

(4) “And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys.” [Qur’an: Chapter 31, Verse 19]

`Aisha said, “The Jews came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said to him, “As-Samu ‘Alaika (i.e., Death be upon you).” He replied, ‘The same on you.’ ” `Aisha said to them, “Death be upon you, and may Allah curse you and shower His wrath upon you!” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) I said, “Be gentle and calm, O `Aisha! Be gentle and beware of being harsh and of saying evil things.” She said, “Didn’t you hear what they said?” He said, “Didn’t you hear what I replied (to them)? have returned their statement to them, and my invocation against them will be accepted but theirs against me will not be accepted.” (al-Bukhari 6401)

(5) I have been given superiority over the other prophets in six respects: I have been given words which are concise but comprehensive in meaning; (Muslim 523 a)

* This hadith highlights the importance of using speech which is simple to understand and comprehensive

(6) The Prophet (ﷺ) would listen respectfully to the speaker with patience without interrupting their speech.
In one of the authentic stories in the biography of the Prophet (ﷺ), Utbah bin Rabiah had approached to the Prophet (ﷺ) to negotiate with him regarding his message on behalf of Quraish, the Prophet (ﷺ) patiently listened to him despite the fact that he did not agree to what was being said. Once Utbah had stopped speaking, Prophet (ﷺ) asked him: “Is this all that you intended to say?” Utbah replied in the affirmative, and this is when the Prophet (ﷺ) gave his response. (Ibn Hisham 1/293,294))

(7) The Prophet (ﷺ) said: I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for a man who avoids quarrelling even if he were in the right (Sunan Abi Dawud 4800)
