How to Perform Nikah

Sunnah Of Dressing.
1. Say Bismillah
2. Put on your garment starting with the right side (1)
3. Wear white clothes (Recommended) (2)
4. Wear pants/garment above the ankles (for men only) (3).
5. Avoid wearing gold or silk (for men only) (4)
6. When wearing shoes, first start with the right shoe then the left.(5)
7. Garments should not be worn in pride or arrogance (applies to both men & women) (6)
8. Say dua when wearing new garment
(Allahumma lakal-hamdu, Anta kasawtanihi, as’aluka khairuhu wa khaira ma suni’a lahu, wa a’udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri masuni’a lahu'”) (7)

(1) ‘Aishah said:”The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to like to start in the right. He would accept with his right hand and give with his right hand, and he liked to start on the right in all his affairs.” (Sunan an-Nasa’i)
(2) The Prophet (ﷺ) said:”Wear white clothes for they are purer and better, and shroud your dead in them.”‘ (Sunan an-Nasa’i)
(3) The Prophet (ﷺ) said; “Whatever of the lower garment is beneath the ankles is in the Fire.” (al-Bukhaari)
(4) “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade wearing silk and gold. He said: ‘They are for them in this world and for us in the Hereafter.’” (Ibn Majah)
(5) Aisha (RA) said :The Prophet (ﷺ) used to like to start from the right side on wearing shoes, combing his hair and cleaning or washing himself and on doing anything else
(al-Bukhari)
(6) “The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: ‘Whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allah will not look at him.’ Umm Salamah said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what should women do with their hems?’ He said: ‘Let it down a hand span.’ She said: ‘But then their feet will show.’ He said: ‘Let it down a forearm’s length, but no more than that.'” (Sunan an-Nasa’i)
(7) “When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), would wear a new garment he would mention what it was, whether an ‘Imamah, a Qamis, or a Rida’, then he would say:
اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ كَسَوْتَنِيهِ أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهُ وَخَيْرَ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ
Allahumma lakal-hamdu, Anta kasawtanihi, as’aluka khairuhu wa khaira ma suni’a lahu, wa a’udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni’a lahu'” (‘O Allah! For You is the praise, You have clothed me, I ask You for its good and the good for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil for which it was made.) (at-Tirmidhi – hasan)
