Brief view about our beloved Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم)

The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is the most beloved human being and the messenger of Allah for each one of us. He is the one who actually resides in each one of our heart. We love him more than our parents, siblings and any other beloved thing that any one of us possess in our life. 

The Companions of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to say to him out of their extreme love the following sentence written in English as well along with the Arabic language for our those frequent website readers who don’t understand Arabic very well:

ﻓﺪﺍﮎ ﺍﺑﯽ ﻭﺍﻣﯽ ﻭﺭﻭﺣﯽ ﻭﻣﺎﻟﯽ ﻭﻧﻔﺴﯽ ﻭﻭﻟﺪﯼ ﯾﺎﺳﯿﺪﯼ ﯾﺎﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﻠّﮧ ﺻﻠﯽ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﯿﮧ ﻭﺍﻟﮧ ﻭﺍﺻﺤﺎﺑﮧ ﻭﺑﺎﺭﮎ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ

Translation: May my mother & father & my soul & my wealth & my life & my children be sacrificed for you.

The Revelation of the Quran was made on Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم)

The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would often sit alone in the cave of Hira. He would pray and meditate there, surrounded by nature.

One night during Ramadan, the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) sat all alone as usual in the cave. Suddenly the Angel Jibril (Gabriel) appeared before him in human form and taught him the very first verses of the Quran. The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) felt they were actually being written on his heart. The Quran thus began to be revealed by Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

It took him 23 years to complete his mission of spreading Islam 

All this took 23 long years to complete. The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) began giving the message of the Quran to the people of Makkah, as ordered by Allah. But not many of them liked his teachings and they became his terrible enemies. They all set out to harm him and his handful of followers.

Verse：

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَانَا لِهَٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِنَهْتَدِيَ لَوْلَا أَنْ هَدَانَا اللَّهُ لَقَدْ جَاءَتْ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِالْحَقِّ

“All the praise (is) for Allah, the One Who guided us to this, and not we were to receive guidance if not [that] Allah (had) guided us. Certainly, came Messengers (of) our Lord with the truth.” (Surah Al-Araf 7:43)

The historical incident of Al-Isra and Al-Miraj

When the Makkan persecution of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and his family seemed about to crush Islam, the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) had an extraordinary experience, known as al-Isra and al-Miraj, or the Night Journey and the Ascension.

The Famous Night he slept in Ka’abah & Allah called him on the sky to meet

One night, as he slept next to the Ka’abah, the Archangel Jibril woke him and took him on a strange, white-winged animal, called Buraq, from Makkah to Al-Aqsa mosque in faraway Jerusalem. From there Jibril took the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) through Heaven’s gates, where he saw countless angels. He was then taken through the Seven Heavens, one by one.

Then, the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) passed through many veils, until at last, he came into the divine Light of Allah’s Presence, which brought peace and banished all sense of time. Then, he was brought back to earth where he was amazed to find the spot where he had lain still warm, and the cup he had tripped over still emptying. This had all taken place in less than a moment!

The people of his tribe “Quraysh” initially doubted on the incident but accepted later on

The next morning, the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) told the Quraysh of his experience. But many doubted his word. However, the Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه وسلم) description of Jerusalem and the caravans he had seen on his return to Makkah convinced them of truthfulness.

Verse:

سُبۡحٰنَ الَّذِىۡۤ اَسۡرٰى بِعَبۡدِهٖ لَيۡلًا مِّنَ الۡمَسۡجِدِ الۡحَـرَامِ اِلَى الۡمَسۡجِدِ الۡاَقۡصَا الَّذِىۡ بٰرَكۡنَا حَوۡلَهٗ لِنُرِيَهٗ مِنۡ اٰيٰتِنَا​ ؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ السَّمِيۡعُ الۡبَصِيۡرُ‏

Holy is He Who carried His servant by night from the Holy Mosque (in Makkah) to the farther Mosque (in Jerusalem) whose surroundings We have blessed that We might show him some of Our Signs. Indeed He alone is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. (Surah Al-Isra 17:1)

The migration to Madinah when Makkah people were searching for him to kill

One night, at his lord’s command, the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) left Makkah for Madinah along with Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه). The Makkans were looking for him to kill him. So, to throw the attackers off the scent, they left Ali Ibn Ali Talib lying in the Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه وسلم) bed. Once out of Makkah, they sheltered in the nearby cave of Thawr.

The pursuers went empty hands and couldn’t find him

On their third day there, a search party approached the cave where they were hiding. Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه), the Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه وسلم) companion in this journey, became afraid. But the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) consoled Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) by saying that Allah was with them. Their pursuers soon went away after conducting their search.

No one had cared to look inside the cave. But it had been a close shave. Later, traveling only at night for safety, and taking a long winding route, they reached Madinah in seven days. They were joyously received and they were greatly helped by the Madinans to spread the message of Islam from family to family and from tribe and ultimately to all parts of the world.

Verse：

اُدۡعُ اِلٰى سَبِيۡلِ رَبِّكَ بِالۡحِكۡمَةِ وَالۡمَوۡعِظَةِ الۡحَسَنَةِ​ وَجَادِلۡهُمۡ بِالَّتِىۡ هِىَ اَحۡسَنُ​ؕ اِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَنۡ ضَلَّ عَنۡ سَبِيۡلِهٖ​ وَهُوَ اَعۡلَمُ بِالۡمُهۡتَدِيۡنَ‏

(O Prophet), call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and goodly exhortation, and reason with them in the best manner possible. Surely your Lord knows best who has strayed away from His path, and He also knows well those who are guided to the Right Way. (Surah Al-Nahl 16:125)

The Famous Historical Treaty of Peace

The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) once left for Makkah to perform Umrah accompanied by 1400 companions. He camped at Hudaybiyah, a short way from Makkah. It was a completely peaceful march. But the Makkan leaders objected to it.

They felt that their prestige was damaged by the fact that the very people who had been expelled by them from Makkah should come to the city again and perform the rights of Umrah openly and in such large numbers.

Now the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) halted at Hudaybiyah and began negotiating for peace with the Makkan leaders. The Quraysh finally agreed to sign a peace with the Makkan leaders. The Quraysh finally agreed to sign a peace treaty specifying that for the next ten years no war would take place between the Muslims and the Makkans.

By the terms of this treaty, the Muslims were to go back without visiting the Ka’abah. They were to come again the following year and stay in Makkah for just three days.

The companions of the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) were very upset at the terms of a treaty, it seemed to them that the Makkans had been dominant and they were made out to be subservient. But God declared in the Quran that it was a ‘Clear Victory’ for the believers. The future events showed how the Treaty of Hudaybiyah paved the way for the spread of Islam across Arabia.

Verse：

دَعۡوٰٮهُمۡ فِيۡهَا سُبۡحٰنَكَ اللّٰهُمَّ وَ تَحِيَّـتُهُمۡ فِيۡهَا سَلٰمٌ​ۚ وَاٰخِرُ دَعۡوٰٮهُمۡ اَنِ الۡحَمۡدُ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَ

Their cry in it will be: ‘Glory be to You, Our Lord!’, and their greeting: ‘Peace!’; and their cry will always end with: ‘All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe. (Surah Al-Yunus 10:10)

The Message of Peace

A great part of the Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه وسلم) mission was to bring peace to the world. One way of doing so was to convince people that all men and women, although living in a very different region of the world, and seemingly different from one another color culture and language, etc., were, in fact, each others blood brother and sister.

The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would preach to his followers:

“You are all Adam’s offspring and Adam was made of clay” and in his prayer to his creator, “Oh Lord, all your servants are brothers”.

The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) himself set an example of peaceful living great gentleness, kindness, humility, good humor and excellent common sense, and his great love for all people and even for animals. He never made others feel small, unwanted or embarrassed. He urged his followers to do likewise, to release slaves whenever possible, and his alms, especially to very poor people, orphans and prisoners without any thought of reward. He would tell people that “ Every religion has some special virtue that of Islam being modesty.”

Without such virtue, no community can have lasting peace. He was of a high moral character so that people might harm him, yet he would pray for them, returning good for evil. When others try to provoke him, he would remain patient in serene. In setting this example his real aim was to fashion souls which turned toward God, which found Allah so great that everything else seemed unimportant. 

Verse：

وَقَالُوا الۡحَمۡدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِىۡۤ اَذۡهَبَ عَـنَّا الۡحَزَنَ ؕ اِنَّ رَبَّنَا لَـغَفُوۡرٌ شَكُوۡرُ ۙ‏

They will say: “All praise be to Allah Who has taken away all sorrow from us. Surely our Lord is Most Forgiving, Most Appreciative. (Surah Al-Fatir: 35:34)

اۨلَّذِىۡۤ اَحَلَّنَا دَارَ الۡمُقَامَةِ مِنۡ فَضۡلِهٖ​ۚ لَا يَمَسُّنَا فِيۡهَا نَصَبٌ وَّلَا يَمَسُّنَا فِيۡهَا لُـغُوۡبٌ‏

(the Lord) Who, out of His Bounty, has made us dwell in an abode wherein no toil, nor fatigue affects us. (Surah Al-Fatir: 35:34)
