The Real Love Story

We all talk about love, and we are all brought up in an environment with soap operas and movies, they always talk to you about a love story between a man and a woman.

And we all read stories with endings where they marry one another, and then they live happily ever after. This is not the case, they never show you what happens after marriage, marriage is a test, marriage is an institution, marriage is a project.

You want a good partner, you want a quality partner, and that quality partner is a righteous spouse. There is no harm in marrying a rich, handsome/beautiful, prestigious, and good family (wo)man, but these are not the criteria.

They always share with us beautiful love stories between romeo and Juliet, and so many other names in different cultures. But you want to know about the best love story ever? The best love story in the whole world was between a man and a woman, the woman was 15 years older than him, I’m talking about Khadija and the Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

Aisha said: I have never been jealous from the living wives of the prophet, more than I’m jealous of Khadija. Khadija is dead, and when the Prophet would mention here I could tell how excited he was about her, Khadija used to have a sister named Hala, and when he would hear the voice of Hala outside, he would get so happy, and when he would slaughter a sheep, he would make sure to tell his wives to give some of it to the friends of Khadija.

Aisha would say: How long will you go on remembering a woman so old that she had no teeth in her mouth? Allah has given you a woman better than her (meaning herself).’ The Prophet was so crossed that the hair of his head was raised. He said: ‘By Allah, I do not have better than Khadija. She believed in me when others were steeped into infidelity. She testified to my truth when others rejected my claim. She helped me with her wealth when others deprived me. And Allah gave me children by her.
